4 Way Test Speech Contest

The 4-Way Test is one of the world’s most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics. The 4-Way Test Speech Competition is held in the Spring of each year. This event is open to all high school students. They prepare a five to seven minute speech that illustrates the 4-Way Test of Rotary International and how it applies to their life, activities, interests, or goals, or any combination thereof. Winners at the Club level advance to the Area Competition. Winners at Area advance to District. At each level, students have an opportunity to win scholarship money. This event is open to all high school students.
The date for the Local 4-Way Test competition will be announced when the details are confirmed.

DATES:  The specific date of our Club contest is still to be determined..   The District contest will be held on a date to be determined at the Ortiz Center in Corpus Christi.

BACKGROUND:
The test asks the following questions: Of the things we think, say or do
• Is it the TRUTH?
• Is it FAIR to all concerned?
• Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
• Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The student is judged on Content (50%), Organization (30%), and Delivery (20%). The student must follow the Four-Way Test Theme throughout, must relate the speech to his/her own activities, must present a human-interest appeal, and must choose language that is clear, vivid and persuasive. The student must demonstrate organization of thought including an introduction, clear and orderly points and a brief conclusion that drives home the point of application. And finally, the student must be effective in his or her speech delivery including volume, grammar, gestures and attitude toward the audience.

RULES:
• Participants must be enrolled in an area High School. All grade levels can compete.
• The speech must be between 5 and 7 minutes in length.
• The speech must relate to Rotary’s Four Way Test.
• Contestants will be allowed note cards. The speeches do not have to be memorized.

Rotary Club of Corpus Christi
This week at the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi, we had the pleasure of hearing from our Rotary Youth Exchange student, Michaela Vidova, who shared her journey and the impact of the program on her life.Michaela spoke about following in the footsteps of both her father and her sister, and how that path led her to an experience that has been nothing short of life-changing. From new cultures to new connections, she reflected on how grateful she is for every opportunity the Rotary Youth Exchange program has given her—and how those experiences will stay with her long after this year. We’re especially grateful to the students from Solomon Coles High School, who reminded us that there are many pathways to success. Their stories of resilience and determination in the face of challenges were truly moving. We also loved hearing from the students of Veterans Memorial High School, whose friendship and support for one another showed how powerful it is to have someone by your side. Their bond was a great example of how encouragement can open doors and create new opportunities. It was a meaningful meeting all around, made even more special with a surprise Lifetime Achievement Award presentation to Rotarian Mike Kershaw in recognition of his lasting impact and dedication.Moments like these are what make our Thursdays so special. If you’ve been looking for a way to connect, grow, and give back in Corpus Christi, we’d love to have you join us. Another great event! D.E.A.R (Drop Everything And Read) at Sam Houston Elementary.Every year, volunteers from the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi take time off from their busy lives to read to the students at Sam Houston Elementary. Not sure who had more fun, the students, or our members. We love giving back to the community. Man that guy did a great job. I didn’t even feel it. I feel a little bit. OK. ... See MoreSee Less
