ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE

Are you interested in learning a new language or meeting new people? Rotary Youth Exchange is the opportunity of a lifetime for the more than 8,000 students who participate each year.   By sharing your own culture and embracing a new one, you help foster global understanding—and learn a great deal about yourself and your home country in the process.  Learn more by watching this video.

WHAT IS A ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE?

Youth Exchange is a study-abroad opportunity for young people who spend anywhere from a few weeks to a full year as an international student hosted by local Rotary clubs.

IS AN EXCHANGE RIGHT FOR ME?

Exchanges are for people ages 15–18 who:
  • Have demonstrated leadership in their school and community
  • Are flexible and willing to try new things
  • Are open to cultural differences
  • Can serve as an ambassador for their own country

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Costs vary from country to country. Local Rotary clubs generously host students and provide room and board with a host family and a small monthly stipend. Participants are generally responsible for:
  • Round-trip airfare
  • Insurance
  • Travel documents (such as passports and visas)
  • Spending money, additional travel, and tour fees

HOW CAN I APPLY?

Contact your local Rotary club to see if it participates and to learn more about the types of programs offered, and specific application process required. Because the selection and orientation process can be lengthy, we suggest you apply 6–12 months before you plan to leave.

CAN I HOST AN EXCHANGE STUDENT?

Hosting an exchange student can be an incredibly rewarding experience for your family, providing an international experience without leaving home. Host families provide room and board and share their lives with exchange students, involving them in family, community, and cultural activities.

Some Rotary meetings remind us that the strongest acts of leadership can continue making an impact for generations.Mary McQueen and Christine Wisian shared how RYLA+ has grown into a hands-on, youth-led leadership program that helps students develop teamwork, communication, problem-solving and confidence. Since 1995, the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi has proudly led this program for District 5930, serving more than 4,500 students. We were also honored to present Ralph Ehrlich with a Lifetime Achievement Award. During Ralph’s year as club president, two enduring initiatives began: RYLA and the Harvey Weil Conservationist Award. More than 30 years later, both continue to create opportunities, recognize service and strengthen our community—a remarkable Rotary legacy.Congratulations, Ralph, and thank you to Mary and Christine for continuing the work he helped begin.Want to be part of service that lasts? This week at the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi, we got an inside look at one of the most exciting coastal restoration projects happening in our region.Leigh Perry with the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program shared the vision behind the El Rincon Reef Shoreline Protection Project—a transformative effort designed to protect North Beach, preserve the USS Lexington and surrounding infrastructure, restore oyster reefs, marshes, and seagrass, and reduce erosion for generations to come. This isn't just about today's shoreline—it's about the future of our Coastal Bend. This is exactly why our members look forward to Thursdays. We don't just hear great speakers—we gain insight into the projects, people, and decisions that are shaping our community long before they become everyday conversation.Ready to experience Rotary for yourself?
