Operation K.E.Y.S.

operationKEYSJoin fellow Rotarians every Fall for Operation K.E.Y.S. (Keeping Every Youth In School).  Rotarian adult families and friends are encouraged to join us in this great opportunity to demonstrate “Service Above Self.”

Operation K.E.Y.S is a community walk aimed at encouraging students to return to school.  We are proud to assist in this initiative that is a partnership between the Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD), the Diocese of Corpus Christi and the City of Corpus Christi.  The event will target students who did not re-enroll and to encourage them to return to school to complete their education.  In the past six years, over 800 students have returned and over 100 have graduated or earned a GED. The event will pair one Rotarian volunteer with a CCISD employee to make home visits to students who did not enroll for the designated school year.

Instead of home visits, Rotarians can also volunteer on campus the morning of the event.  Campus duties may include handing out team bags, t-shirts, and snacks as well as distributing volunteer certificates to all volunteers, signing volunteers in on arrival, etc.

Good morning from beautiful Corpus Christi! ☀️Today’s words come from Jennifer Jones, who made history as the first woman to serve as President of Rotary International in 2022–23.A longtime Rotarian from Ontario, Canada, Jones has spent her Rotary career championing service, connection and the power of sharing Rotary’s story. Her reminder feels like a pretty good way to start the week:“We’re more than a club. We’re a movement.”Have a wonderful Monday, Rotarians. 💙#RotaryCC #ServiceAboveSelf #CorpusChristi #PeopleOfAction ...

Rotary Club of Corpus Christi
🍎 The Rotary Club of Corpus Christi welcomed fellow Rotarian Bea Hanson, Executive Director of the Coastal Bend Food Bank, as the speaker at our Thursday meeting!Bea shared an inspiring look at the Food Bank’s growth and the important work it is doing throughout our region. Since 2009, annual food distribution has grown from 5.4 million pounds to more than 14.6 million pounds—equal to over 12 million meals. Its Mobile Pantry program now serves 41 sites and distributes more than 4.1 million pounds of food. 🚚💙With food insecurity affecting nearly one in four people across the Coastal Bend, the Food Bank’s expanded team, transportation fleet, new facility and community garden are helping provide greater access to nutritious food for children, families and seniors. 🌱🌎 We were also proud to introduce Kim Yates, the foreign exchange student our club is sponsoring as she studies in South Korea this year. We wish Kim an unforgettable year filled with new experiences and friendships! 🇰🇷✈️Thank you, Bea, for an informative presentation and for the incredible work you and the Coastal Bend Food Bank do for our community.
