March 31, 2022 meeting

Our speaker on Thursday is Dr. McKinney, our Harvey Weil Professional Conservationist of the Year

Dr. McKinney’s presentation is “Who Ate the First Oyster… and Why?”  Looking at an open oyster one does have to wonder—how hungry did you have to be to think this might taste good?  Human opinion of the lowly oyster has varied wildly through history, from dietary staple of native Americans to nothing more than road base to today’s delicacy on the half shell.

Larry will talk about all this and what the Harte Research Institute and Palacios Marine Research will do to launch the largest oyster restoration project ever attempted.  Something only possible in Texas.
