President

2007-2008

It is with great excitement that I accept the gavel from outgoing Rotary President  Jim Mailhes. Our club has a long history of service above self and I look forward to serving the club as president in 2007-08.

We will continue our service to our community through our Shots Across Texas Program, Salvation Army Bell Ringing, Adoption Awareness, RYLA, scholarships and Kritters for Kids curriculum. We will add a new local service project this year by building a concession stand for the Police Athletic League facility located at Crosstown and Buford.  This will be a great opportunity for the Corpus Christi family of Rotary to get involved.

We have a new International project we want to pursue. It ties closely with our support of literacy initiatives.  This is the Rota-light project. We will help fund lights for children in the out-lying islands off the Philippine coast that do not have access to traditional utilities. These children have no means of reading or doing homework after the sun sets. Through the Rota-light project, these rechargeable lights will give the children hours of illumination in their homes.

As is tradition with the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi, we can look forward to some of the most interesting speakers representing the business, scientific, oil & gas and the legislative fields to name just a few.

A special thanks to Jim Mailhes and his board for their diligent stewardship of our club. Through his leadership our club is in excellent condition.

I hope everyone is as enthused as I am about the upcoming year of Service Above Self.  I look forward to working with each of you in your area of interest and hope to see you each week at our meeting.
