Water & Sanitation Projects

In 1998, Hurricane Mitch devastated many parts of Honduras. Thousands of families relocated to what is now Ciudad Nueva Choluteca. As it was originally intended to be temporary, the city does not have adequate clean water and other amenities. The Choluteca Rotary Club estimates 10,000 families remain in Ciudad Nueva without clean drinking water. Water and Sanitation is one of the six (6) priority Focus Areas of Rotary. The Rotary Club of Choluteca, Honduras, has worked with several Rotary clubs in the past, including the Rotary Club of Corpus Christ, to bring water filters, latrines, and water education to villages outside of Choluteca.

The Choluteca Rotary Club is planning a large project that will include a water well and other amenities. The Rotary Club of Corpus Christ has agreed to partner with them on the water well aspect of the project. Thankfully, a water storage tank has already been promised by a local company in Honduras.

Project Schedule:

The Rotary Club of Corpus Christ, Texas, is looking for additonal Rotary Clubs and/or individual Rotarians to join as Associate Club Sponsors ($250 and above contributon) or Senior Associate Club Sponsors ($1,000 and above contribution). All Sponsors will be provided an acknowledgment of participation and periodic reports. If requested, Associate Club Sponsors can receive a Club program on the Project (PowerPoint) and Senior Associate Sponsors can receive two Club programs on the Project (a “before” program describing the Project and an “after” program showing the results). Total Project cost is $12,235.07.
